Cenote
Cenote
We'll start the trip with a visit to a cenote, which entrance gives us a preview of what we'll see later. A first submersion into the dark underworld.
Tihosuco
Mayan Caste War
Before the adventurous part, we'll visit the Church of the Holy Child Jesus in this important village in the Caste War (1847 – 1901). One of the first villages under complete Mayan control.
Sabán
Church of the Holy Cross
Following the Church route, we'll visit the Church of the Holy Cross of Sabán (16th century) and its horrible history.
Kantemó
Bats
After putting on our equipment, we'll take the bikes to the entrance of the cave.
We'll wait until dusk, when the bats are starting to fly out from the cave.
Hanging snakes
Once in the cave, we'll search for this unique world attraction: hanging boas, clustered in the ceiling, snatching and eating bats while these are leaving the cave.
Water life and fossils
We'll also observe some species of perpetual darkness, like the blind eel, blind shrimp, and aquatic cochineal.
Fossils tell us about the peninsula's under sea history.
After the visit to the cave we'll have dinner with the local Maya people.
